Talks on Washington marriage equality start today

gaywrites:

Lawmakers in Washington will begin discussing today whether to legalize marriage equality in the state.

Though Gov. Chris Gregoire has famously announced support for the bill recently, that doesn’t mean it’s sure to pass. There are enough votes for it in the House but not quite enough in the Senate, and NOM has already promised to do whatever it takes to strike it down.

Stay tuned for updates on how this plays out, though we probably won’t know anything big for a long time. Get ready!

Born This Way Foundation to launch at Harvard

gaywrites:

Lady Gaga’s recently announced Born This Way Foundation for youth empowerment will launch on February 29 with a kickoff event at Harvard University. The Harvard Graduate School of Education is among many organizations that will work together on “BTWF” to reach out to youth and promote self-acceptance and self-confidence.

“BTWF, a non-profit charitable organization, will address issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development and advocacy,” the release said. “With a focus on digital mobilization to create positive change, BTWF will lead youth into a braver new society where each individual is accepted and loved as the person they were born to be.”

Road trip to Harvard, anyone?

Nation's first LGBT license plate in Indiana

gaywrites:

The state of Indiana has just introduced a license plate supporting an LGBT-friendly cause, the first plate of its kind in the country.

As shown above, the license plate displays the logo of the Indiana Youth Group, an organization that provides LGBT training for schools. The Youth Group has been working to get the plate approved since 2010, and the Indiana ACLU even sued the state’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles after the plate was denied twice.

The plates will be available in February and cost $40, with $25 directly benefiting the Youth Group. If you live and drive in Indiana, you should totally get one of these. I know I would.
